Cox DVR (SA 8240HD) & HDMI

Postby jnwarner » Sun Feb 22, 2009 12:30 pm

Can anyone confirm (or deny) if the above box will output HDMI ? My neighbor just purchased a Sony XBR6 and I was trying to hook it up using an HDMI cable. No signal, and needless to say, Cox Tech Support wasn't too much help. They couldn't tell me if the HDMI port was enabled or not. We called the store where she purchased it, and they suggested re-booting the DVR to try and establish connection, but that didn't work.

Thanks

Jim

I don't think there is such a thing as a 3240. There's a 3250 which has DVI instead of HDMI, and a 4240 that has HDMI. The HDMI output on the 4240 does work.

The HDMI on the 8240 should also work. Have you tried Component just to make sure the box works?

Yes, it works fine with the component input. I suppose it COULD be the cable, but it's brand new as well.

You might want to double-check and make sure HD resolutions are enabled in the setup wizard. Some TVs don't like 480i over HDMI.
From the 8300 Tips & Tricks thread:
1. Using Power button on unit (not remote), turn off power, then press both GUIDE/INFO at same time.
2. Choose Easy or Advanced setup - Easy selects 1080i output only - Advanced provides options for TV type (4x3 or 16x9) and user selected outputs.
3. Follow instructions on the screen. Read instructions carefully. If screen goes blank, it is trying to display a resolution not supported by TV - disable resolution.

I can confirm that the HDMI does work - I have an 8240 HDC Explorer, just got it last Tuesday.

However, I only had picture, no sound. I'm sure there's something else I need to connect or enable, but I just haven't had time to play around with all the bells and whistles of both the HD DVR box and my new HD TV. Right now I'm just using the component cables.

Both of you can check to see if the General Settings (press Settings button twice) Audio: Digital Out option is set to HDMI.

jnwarner can also check to see if the Set: Picture Format is set to Auto-DVI or Auto-HDMI, which ever it is these days.

I assume the options are set right, but it never hurts to check.

Oh, and you might want to disconnect the Component cables from the 8240s to make sure having both is not causing any problems.

HDMI had worked for several years between my 8240HD and Mitsu WD-52725 until today following repair of the Mitsu fan when the tech disconnected the HDMI cable. Now I only get the onscreen guide but no video on HDMI and the message that the Mitsu TV is not HDCP compliant. No changes were made to the Mitsu software or setup. Has anyone else experienced this or found a fix?

HDMI works.

However, it is not truly supported.

When my box broke and HDMI did not work, I was told that as long as the component cables worked, then everything was just fine in the eyes of COX.

Let me see if I can translate that into English. I believe they were saying, "Have you considered satellite?"
