Damn weather

I hate ch 12 news. They cut the audio and run a huge red banner during parks and rec for 10 minutes. Then they cut when the office comes on to talk about the weather and we all missed the first 5 minutes. So now i don't know wtf is going on and i got to watch parks and rec and the office online.

Who cares about the weather, i am in my house watching TV, i am protected. If i wanted to know something i could browse the The weather channel or go on hundreds of web sites to find out more. So Stations, stop interrupting Prime time for news stories or weather, it's not fair, the majority of viewers don't give a crap and it's easy to find out the information online.

As near as I could tell, Ch 10 was the only one I didn't get interrupted by. I didn't watch Ch 12 and I haven't watched my Ch 15 recordings yet. Ch 10 did downrez Bones and ran a crawler, but they didn't interrunpt the show. CH 5 was the worst for me. They came on and actually said they were going to show ALL of The Mentalist and then, not more than 5 minutes later, interrupted it. Then the 10:00 news was virtually nothing but weather. I thought weather was what their crappy sub-channels were for? Trouble is they know hardly anyone watches those, the boneheads. Things were different 40 years ago when there were only 3 channels, but now there is absolutely no reason for this. They used to be able to say they needed to service analog OTA viewers, but that is no longer the case, everyone is digital and gets the subchannels. They could have just added a crawler directing people to switch to their sub-channels. Most people have enough sense to just look out the window to see what the weather is like. :)

I got pissed off when it happened during "The Office". And the real stupidity here is that there are many people who, like me, don't watch these shows live anyway. So when they cut away to their coverage, I got to hear how bad the weater was an hour ago. Hey, KPNX, the reason we're on your channel is to watch "The Office" (they also did it during "30 Rock"). If I wanted weather, I had plenty of alternatives. Curiously, they felt the need to interrupt during Conan as well, but they did the right thing there and cut in during the commercial break, not the show itself (but then, why do you need to cut in when immediately before "The Tonight Show" was your own newscast?).

Idiots.

This is nothing new. A few years ago, 12 cut away from the last 12 minutes of the season ending episode of Ed with news about a forest fire somewhere up north. They never did rebroadcast it.

I'm watching the Grey's recording now only to find that the idiots at Ch 15 not only cutaway for the weather, but started Private Practice when they returned fromt he cutaway. How lame can you get? Some engineer needs to be penalized. This is the secind time this has happened with a breaking news cutaway during Grey's.

I have a hard time believing Channel 15 did not notice they had the wrong program running for 8 minutes. Then they repeatedly broke into regular programming for news that was not happening. Their radar displays did not match what they were sayiing at the time. They screwed up Greys and Private Practice all night long.

Their schedule shows that Grey's is rerunning tonight at 7:00 PM. I think it was already planned to do that. The news people at 15 really wanted a Tornado to land but thank goodness the weather did not help them out. I have never seen a station want something so bad they screwed up all their programming.

Good point. You could almost see folks at the stations on their knees praying for a disaster to strike. How shameful!

I'm sure there were plenty of people who were on the edge of their seats with every cutaway, I wasn't one of them. Maybe I'm too jaded, but I just don't care. Yes, I feel sorry for the little boy who got swept away beneath Sunset Point, etc., but tragedies occur every day and we don't interrupt TV as a result. And, yes, I know it's only TV, but what was gained by the interruptions?
